What I Remember about Sister Tang

---By Qingru Zeng, 2022/09/08

It was in 2017 or 2018 when I met Sister Tang for the first time. I was a student at Concordia University at that time. She was handing out the flyers of our church at the entrance of the metro station. She told me she was Sister Tang and she had been living in Canada for many years. She invited me to our church where I could meet a professor from McGill. She added me on WeChat. At that time, I was still new in Canada, and I did not know much about the church. I did not really come to the church with the convenient excuse of being "busy". That day must be one of the many days when Sister Tang preached gospel.

I was invited to a wedding in October 2018. The bride was my friend. She told me there would be a ceremony in our church, too. That was how I came to our church for the first time. To my surprise Sister Tang was there too. She went to where I lived after she found that my apartment was not far away from her house. I still remember how beautiful she was in her Chinese tyle jacket when she arrived in front of my apartment building in her white car. She took to me some spiced beef. It was the most delicious spiced beef that I have tasted in Canada. Both my son and I liked it very much.

The winter of 2018, Sister Tang invited me and many other students and young people to her home. She cooked a lot of food.

Then I began to attend church regularly. Sister Tang invited me to read Bible with her, but I did not do it much with her. This summer, Sister Tang found that I was not working, and she invited me again to preach gospel and to read Bible with her. We went to Concordia together. I could see that she was weak. She told me to drop her near Concordia because she did not want to walk another 10 minutes to the place where I parked my car. In fact, she walked a lot that day. She also had to drive. I offered to pick her up and send her back to her home in South Shore, but she would rather drive to Nun's Island where I live to save me the "trouble". If I were so weak that I found it hard to walk 10 minutes, I would not go on the street to preach gospel. Sister Tang had so much faith that she could do it even when she was sick.

Sister Tang and I read Bible for several times this summer. It was August 18 the last time she read it with me.

Submit to God, Resist the Devil

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Sister Tang is a most humble, sober and vigilant servant of God. She set an example for us to follow. (1Peter 5:5-10)
